The Royal Flying Corps, was the Air Arm of the British Army during the First World War. Formed in 1911, with 133 officers, 12 manned balloons and 36 aeroplanes. At the beginning of WWI, the RFC had to 2,072 officers and men.
The RFC grew to have 149 squadrons. By the end of 1918, having combined with the Royal Naval Air Service in April to form the RAF, there were 114,000 personnel and 4,000 combat aircraft.
